The original app design was very fuctional. All fuctional buttons are shown on the homescreen. This leave the app with limited expansion opportunities.

Buttons
Some users were confused about what each buttons do as the details are tiny when out in the ocean.
Speedometer
One main use case for users are just looking out for points of interest on the map and information about their boat. They wanted a speedometer to show them how fast they are going while they are checking the map.
Weather
Weather is an inmportant element when it comes to boating. Users needed weather information right in the app which includes wave heights and wind speed.
Redesign
Lottie Animation
Vector animations are integrated to indicate content are loading. This also helps lower device storage used and retain details for scalling.
App Store Preview
To stand out from competitors, animation of app preview is used on the app store. This has boosted download rate after implementation.
Intro Animation
Animation is a more engaging solution to introduce users to app features. This was insipred by other apps that has proven to be successful in educating new downloaders.
Organized
Instead of scattering around buttons features are now organized in sections. For instance, all previous trips, route planning functions are found in the trips section.
Weather
As requested by users, the weather feature is now included on the app. It will also warn boaters of weather conditions based on their boat size.
Tides
This is the flagship feature of this app. Tides can drastically affect water depth. No one wants to get stuck because of changes in tides. This feature allows boaters to changes the time of day and the map will reflect how deep the water will be.
Location Info
Information about location are more detailed, providing Information such as protection, holding, busyness and number of spots available, which is essential to boaters.
Warnings
As mentioned by some boaters, this app allows them to see the water condition around them. By warning the boaters about potential dangers such as shallow waters, they can avoid costly damages.
