One trend that is gaining more traction in the tech industry is 5G. Ever since Apple released the first 5G phone, everyone’s jumping on to the ultra-fast mobile internet bandwagon. In Canada, cell carriers like Bell is trying to promote the use of 5G technology. But there is no campaign that is more prominent than the US carriers.

T-Mobile, one of the major US cell provider has been running a campaign trying to get people to switch to their plans. The message here is “America’s largest 5G network”. On their website, they show their customers that they have the widest coverage of 5G network in the US. They even have a map comparing themselves to another major competitor, which is Verizon.

Other than having the target 5G network in America, they are also promoting the benefits of having 5G on your phone. By advertising all these benefits, T-Mobile is able to convince smartphone users that bought a phone 2 years ago to get the latest and greatest 5G phone from them. This tactic attracts customers to get a phone and service from them because they can’t have access to the best network with an older 4G phone.
Although 5G sounds promising and futuristic, this technology is not as advertised. You would only get the speed they promised in a super-specific location. The way you could your phone, and if your phone supports a specific wave would affect the connection speed. With all the marketing from different companies about 5G, it is really enticing for consumers to switch. But make sure you have done your research before spending your cash on a shiny new phone.
